Use your trend as context, not a diagnosis
If you are considering medical weight management, a PrimeLife clinician can assess your health history and suitability. Your public tracker is not automatically shared with the clinical team.

What does the weight loss tracker show?
Once you have entered your height and started recording weigh-ins, the tracker can show:
Your starting and current weight.
Your total weight change.
Your percentage change from your starting weight.
Your average recorded weekly change.
How your calculated BMI has changed.
Your longer-term progress as a weight loss graph.
Percentage weight-change milestones.
Optional waist measurements.
An optional target weight.
You can switch between kg and cm or stones, pounds, feet and inches without losing your records.
Why track weight loss over time?
A single number on the scales does not always tell you very much. Body weight can change from day to day because of factors such as fluid balance, food intake and other normal changes in the body.
That is why looking at the trend over several weeks can be more useful than focusing on one individual reading. NHS England also advises people who are recording their weight to weigh themselves consistently, preferably at the same time of day, and to use the same scales in the same location.
The PrimeLife tracker keeps your previous measurements together and plots them on a chart, making it easier to see the overall direction of travel.
How often should you weigh yourself?
There is no need to react to every small change on the scales. If you choose to weigh yourself regularly, consistency is important.
For more comparable readings, try to:
Use the same scales.
Place them on a firm, level surface.
Weigh yourself at a similar time of day.
Wear similar clothing each time.
Record the result rather than relying on memory.
NHS England suggests recording weight at regular weekly to monthly intervals, depending on the reason you are monitoring it. If weighing yourself frequently is causing anxiety or becoming unhelpfully obsessive, consider weighing less often and speak to an appropriate healthcare professional if you need support.
Should I track my weight every day or every week?
Some people prefer frequent measurements because they like having more data. Others prefer a weekly weigh-in because it makes normal day-to-day fluctuations less prominent.
The PrimeLife tracker works with either approach. What matters most is using your records to understand the longer-term trend, rather than treating every small movement as a success or setback.
What does percentage weight loss mean?
Percentage weight change compares the amount your weight has changed with your starting weight. This can give more context than kilograms or pounds alone.
For example, if someone starts at 100 kg and later weighs 95 kg, their recorded weight has reduced by 5 kg, which is 5% of their starting weight.
The tracker calculates this automatically as you add measurements. Its milestone section is based on your actual recorded change; it does not predict how much weight you will lose in future.
Can I track weight in stones and pounds?
Yes. The tracker is designed for UK users and supports both metric and imperial measurements.
Metric: kilograms and centimetres.
Imperial: stones, pounds, feet and inches.
Your progress summaries and chart will follow the measurement system you select.
Does the tracker calculate BMI?
Yes. You enter your height once when setting up the tracker. This allows the tool to calculate your BMI at different recorded weights and show how it has changed over time.
BMI is a measure of weight relative to height, but it is only one measure of health. The NHS notes that BMI cannot distinguish between muscle and fat, so it should not be treated as a diagnosis or a complete assessment of your health.
If you want to explore how weight, BMI and potential future progress relate to each other, you can also use the PrimeLife Weight Loss Estimator.
Can I track my waist measurement?
Yes, but waist measurement is optional.
Some people find it useful to record waist circumference alongside their weight. If you use this feature, try to measure yourself in a consistent way each time so the results are easier to compare.
Can I set a target weight?
You can add an optional target weight as a personal reference point. You do not need to set one to use the tracker.
The tracker does not decide what your target should be. An appropriate weight-management goal depends on your health, starting point and individual circumstances. If you are receiving clinical weight-management treatment, discuss suitable goals with the healthcare professional responsible for your care.
Where is my weight loss tracker information stored?
You can use the tracker without creating a PrimeLife patient account. Your entries are initially cached in your browser so the tool can remember your progress on that device.
You can also choose to connect Google Drive sync. When you do this, the tracker stores a synced copy in the private application-data area of your own Google account. Your weigh-in history is not stored in the PrimeLife WordPress database.
Connecting the same Google account on another compatible device allows the tracker to retrieve and merge your saved history. Google may occasionally ask you to reconnect before synchronisation can continue.
Your public tracker is separate from your PrimeLife clinical record and is not automatically shared with the PrimeLife clinical team.
Can I download my weight loss tracker?
Yes. You can download your measurements as a CSV file, which can be opened in software such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets and Apple Numbers.
You can also import a previously exported PrimeLife tracker CSV, or use the Print / Save PDF option to keep a visual copy of your progress.
What if my weight loss slows down?
Weight change is not always linear. A short period with little movement does not necessarily tell you what is happening over the longer term.
Keep recording your measurements consistently and use the graph to look at the wider trend. If you are receiving medical weight-management treatment and are concerned about your progress, side effects or treatment response, discuss this with your clinical team rather than changing prescribed treatment yourself.
Tracking weight is only one part of weight management
A weight loss tracker can help you organise your measurements, but it cannot tell you why your weight is changing or whether medical treatment is suitable for you.
Weight management can involve nutrition, physical activity, sleep, existing health conditions, medicines and longer-term changes to habits. Some people may also be suitable for medical weight-management treatment following an appropriate clinical assessment.
PrimeLife’s medical weight-management pathway starts with a clinical assessment. Treatment is not selected simply because someone has used a calculator or tracker.
You can return to this page whenever you want to add another weigh-in. Use the graph to follow your longer-term trend, download your records when you want a separate copy, or connect Google Drive if you would like your tracker history to move between compatible devices.
