Understanding ADHD
The science behind ADHD in plain English, and what it means for your everyday life.

In one minute
ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a difference in how the brain develops and works. It is not a character flaw, laziness or a lack of intelligence.
The name is misleading. ADHD is not really a shortage of attention. It is difficulty steering attention, effort and emotions to where you want them, when you want them there.
It runs strongly in families, starts in childhood and usually continues into adult life. Around 3 to 4 in every 100 adults have it. Understanding how your brain works is the first step to working with it rather than against it.
