Mood
Why they so often come as a set, how to tell which is which, and why treating both matters.

In one minute
Around half of adults with ADHD have an anxiety disorder at some point, and a similar proportion an episode of depression. If you have ADHD and one of these, you are typical, not unusual. Many people were treated for anxiety or depression for years before anyone asked about attention.
It runs both ways. Decades of undiagnosed ADHD — missed deadlines, lost jobs, being told you are lazy — is a very effective way of producing anxiety and low self-worth. Anxiety and depression in turn worsen concentration and motivation, so the ADHD looks more severe.
Both need treating. ADHD treatment often improves mood and anxiety by removing their cause, but not always. Whatever remains once your ADHD is well managed deserves treatment in its own right.
